The ReWrite [2025] Movie Review

I was asked to take a look at this movie by someone, and this is my review. "The ReWrite " is a movie about a "starving artist" named Elliot, who is asked to rewrite his script to a movie, to make this Black characters more "authentically Black". Elliot goes on a spiritual journey trying to rewrite the script, but struggles to do so. The movie makes some commentary about how the White culture in Hollywood expects Black characters and writers to act a certain way.

There were parts in the movie where I really didn't understand what was going on. Why was there a guy talking about getting random spam text messages? It was funny though, when Elliot asked the friend why he had a picture of another man's penis on their phone. The idea was so that the friend would send such pictures to the spam texts, but once again, I found myself asking "Why?". Part of the idea was a sort of commentary about how Black men would be "Wilin' out" on the internet, and would post any types of pictures of themselves online, but I found this to be dismissive. Anyone from any race can posts their nudes online, wilin' out.

The cinematography to the movie is great, and many of the shots looked very beautiful.

Much of the acting in the movie is too cheesy for me. I felt like some of the actors were trying too hard to feel natural when saying their lines, which would ironically, come off as more stock than intended. The White executives depicted at the beginning and end of the movie were definitely played up a bit, which was slightly comical.

There's a lot of emphasis in the movie about this script that Elliot has to rewrite, but we, as the viewer, aren't told much about its idea to begin with. I often felt like I was in the dark. What was the script's original idea before being rewritten? This isn't ever divulged. I felt like this was a major oversight, considering that the script was the main point of the movie. If we knew what the original idea was about, we could see Elliot as more of a sympathetic character, and understand how rewriting the script, would change the movie as a whole. But this doesn't happen. Instead, Elliot comes off as whiny, and quick to call anyone that doesn't agree with him as racist.

I found it ironic that one of the main points of the movie, was that the main character didn't want to give in to Black stereotypes, yet within the first 20 minutes of the movie, Elliot's cousin is seen bringing in a bottle of either Hennesy or Courvoisier to drink.

I also found it hilarious how the love interest, if you could even call her that, told Elliot, "You are not Obama". The love plot point was completely pointless to the overall theme of the movie. In fact, it seems implied that Elliot was sleeping with one of the other female characters, other than Brandy...yet later got frustrated when Brandy moved on to another man.

In general, I found the female characters had very boring and generic dialogue. They seemed to fall into the stereotype of either the nagging female, or pick me type. It made my eyes roll, because the actresses that played the women shown did seem to try to make the dialogue work, but it ultimately fell flat. Brandy was never satisfied. The other female was clearly some sort of other love interest, that "didn't take no shit". Then of course, there was Elliot's mother, who also came off as generic.

During the scene where he talked to his mother, there was a picture shown of her and her current husband, a white guy. Elliot gave this look like he didn't approve of the relationship, at least, that was the way I took it. I don't know how to take this, the interracial relationship as not being approved of? I'm not sure what the point was in showing that, if that wasn't the point. I'm kind of surprised to have seen that. Maybe the idea was that all white people are the same? If so, that's still a stupid idea.

What especially made me cringe, was how Elliot's mother said, "He's the Doug to my Kamala!". I wanted to roll my eyes so hard. I really dislike how interracial relationships are depicted at times. Like each one is the same. I think it's disingenuous.  One ironic part about this, is that not once, is Robert DeNiro ever mentioned...a white actor, who has been consistently married to black women.

I found myself wondering at times, if this had  to be a movie, and not some sort of mini TV series. There are a lot of plot points, between the main character's drinking, trying to get paid, and his relationship problems. To me, some of the ideas could have been better elaborated and expanded upon if there was more time, like a mini series would allow.

I know that some of the scenes were shown to help the audience see how the people who the characters in the script were based off of were, but I wish that there was some sort of comparison to how they were written, before we saw the person they were based off of.

I don't understand the concept of trying to write a unique script for Hollywood that isn't generic, when Hollywood is known to be nothing but that.

I feel like more emphasis was put on the cinematography and camera shots, than the idea of working on the script as the plot point. The movie is 1 hour and 33 minutes long, and majority of the scenes that dealt with the actual writing consisted of the main character not knowing what to do. I feel like the movie is too long, and does not deliver on it's own main plot point.

I think there are good points about how Black people are stereotyped in the common American movie. I think there were valid points about Elliot being upset with how the out of touch executives treated his writing, but the way the movie executed the idea felt unsatisfactory. I think I'm not the right person for a movie like this. I didn't hate this movie, but after watching, I thought to myself, "Okay.".

It's not something that I would watch again, but not out of anger or hatred. I just don't feel like I "got" anything out of this. I prefer movies that I can learn from, or make me laugh, or can scare me. I don't really know who this type of movie is for, but it's not for me.

The Beast of Trinity Texas 2025 Review

The Beast of Trinity Texas 2025

I find the writing to the movie to be subtle, clever, and beautiful in some ways. This may seem strange, but there are some parts to the movie that are almost poetic, though this is more in the presentation. There is a lot of silliness in the movie, some of this on purpose for comedic effect, which I appreciate. I give you props for saying the unsaid during the fight scene between the two officers. There is a subtlety there, which I think would go over most peoples' heads. What Deveraux's wife said after the fight made me laugh, because in many ways, its' true.

The film is a slow burn, with multiple plot threads that actually tie together in the end. I was preparing for it to have a few plot holes, but as far I can remember you actually tied everything up.

To me, I don't see the film being about a cryptid hunt, though that is definitely a part of the movie; I realize that it's more of an appetizer to what the movie really brings: an example of a veteran in desperate need of help, that is drinking himself to death. I think it's clever of you to write about such a subject, without throwing it in the viewer's face. The movie doesn't take itself super seriously, so the usage of comedy allows the viewer to get familiar with what is a heavy subject. Not Bigfoot, but PTSD, Depression, and Alcoholism that many Veterans suffer from.

I love the nods towards Texas. I laughed at the line in the bar scene when Autumn's ex told her, "Every time I see a Bluebonnet, I think of you.". I laughed so hard at that. I can tell that you went to real Texas towns, and filmed in actual Texas settings. It was so nice seeing those old downtown buildings with the facades, a common sight in nearly every Texas town, big or small. I smiled when I saw that you guys clearly filmed in Houston, I've seen that graffiti many times! Also, thank you for actually showing the right ranking for the Colonel!

The filmography was beautiful, without a doubt. The camerawork is amazing, seriously. I really admire how you guys used the contrasting orange and blue lights near the end to create a more dramatic effect. This was very clever, using complimentary colors in such simple ways.

I found it clever that Ridge woke up at 3:33 am in the one scene. A subtle foreshadow for the end of the film, and to those who know what it means. I really appreciate things like that in film.

ONLY FEET 2025 Review

 ONLY FEET 2025

“Only Feet” is a movie that came out in 2025, and was directed by Walter Wright. Not Walter White, but Walter Wright. I was contacted directly, asked if I would be interested in seeing this film, and I said yes! My mentality was basically the same as the Johnny Bravo quote where he says, “I’m sickened but curious.”.

The basic plot to the movie is that a couple who seem to live in hotel rooms is close to being kicked out, short for cash, when the boyfriend, Jace, decides to sell pictures of his feet online, as fetish content. This makes them a lot of money, really fast, but Jace doesn’t tell his girlfriend how he’s making the money. He has a suitor that demands more ridiculous things, and eventually he blocks the person, who then turns out to be a stalker. The stalker is a man, not the woman he portrayed himself as online, and eventually kidnaps Jace’s girlfriend. Jace tries to get his girlfriend back, but ends up being kidnapped himself, basically, and in the end he has to escape the stalker and his cohort. I don’t want to spoil the movie entirely.

I found the movie hilarious, but in many ways, oddly truthful. To me, I feel like using a male lead helps the viewer get comfortable with the idea of someone selling pictures for money. It’s actually a thing, believe it or not, that people are into feet, and would pay for it. In fact, one of the biggest jokes you find on the internet is about foot fetish content.

Typically, people think of women getting into this type of service. I’ll admit, I thought that the main character of the movie was going to be the girlfriend, and not the boyfriend. It surprised me! I wondered if this was partially done to not have the movie become super dark. Having the main character as a male, instead of a female, makes it a lot more funny, I’ll admit. If you were to flip the roles, the movie becomes a lot more scary when you think of a stalker demanding more and more crazy pictures and then stalking the person after.

The humor is a great way to soften this reality. Male or female, this does happen to people in real life. Fetish content or not. I’ve had some people stalk me online in the past. One of them even called my phone once. I found the movie clever for incorporating humor into something that actually happens to people. I think that in some ways, this movie would open up the eyes to people who aren’t familiar with these concepts. I think it would bring up true things in a silly way, that won’t scare the viewer. Sometimes people are afraid to talk about heavy concepts, because simply they are presented in frightening ways. I appreciate the director’s idea of creating a movie that is tongue in cheek, but gives the nuance of real subject matters that happens to people.

The movie is shown in black and white, and I enjoyed the style of the film, it gave it a sleek feel. It’s different from the usual color films we’re used to today.

The ending, I found to be hilarious. Does that make me a bad person? I laughed when they shaved the main character's head. Once again, I don’t want to give spoilers, but the ending of the film just turns into something I’d imagine Tommy Wiseau coming up with.

While watching the movie, I couldn’t help but wonder if some of the dialogue was improvised. It gave me a little bit of a “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” vibe; which, I loved that show growing up.

I guess my only negative contention is that for a film about foot fetish pictures, there aren’t that many instances of the pictures being taken! There’s more sex scenes than foot scenes! I can’t believe I’m even saying that! There’s not enough feet in this film. I guess that’s a good thing though, I suppose we know that this wasn’t a thinly disguised fetish film.

Overall, I found the movie to be ridiculous and over the top, but in the same line as other movies such as "Hood of Horror" and "Blankman". Another example that comes to mind is a film called "The Video Dead", which is from 1987. That movie has great makeup, great film shots, and an interesting idea explored. It's cheesy, but I still think about it to this day. "Only Feet" is definitely something that I'll be thinking about for years, not just because it's funny, but in many ways, it's true. Sort of like George Carlin's comedy. His comedy was funny, because he was pointing out the truth.

I think a lot of people get caught up in trying to make masterpieces in film, yet ironically create something boring instead. What seems to be so easily forgotten, is that the audience wants to be entertained. Personally, I have no interest in watching movies like "Avatar" and "Titanic". There are so many films that are financially successful, yet are in a drought of ideas. They're not entertaining. They're too "safe". Hollywood wouldn't dare to make a film like this. Tarantino would rather rub feet, than talk about the fetish sites surrounding them.

I think one of the greatest things you can do when you create, is to make something from the heart, and something that makes people think.

At the end of the day, people want to be entertained. They want an escape. We don't always want or need something that's trying to be a James Cameron clone. I appreciate the movie for what it was. As of right now, March 2026, the film is available on Relay, the app. But Mr. Wright informed me that it will soon be on other streaming sites such as Tubi and Fawesome, so watch out for it!

Once again, thank you Walter Wright for thinking of me. I hope that to see more of your work in the future.
