Paegan Terrorism Tactics mini review

“Paegan Terrorism Tactics” is the second and final album by Acid Bath, released on November 12th, 1996. Ironically, this was released on Charles Manson’s 62nd birthday. When I interviewed Sammy Duet in 2022, I asked him if this was on purpose, and he said it wasn’t intentional. Though, he told me that Dax Riggs has always had an interest in True Crime things in general.

The album has a more mellow sound in comparison to the first, and you can sort of hear the members pulling away at times, experimenting with their own styles. While their first album was definitely Metal, this one is more “Death Rock”. Dax Riggs does more singing on this one, than his metal screaming on the first.

My favorite songs on this one would be “Diab Soule”, “Locust Spawning”, and “Bleed Me An Ocean”. There is something about the style and riffs on this album that makes me nostalgic for the late 90’s really bad. Having grown up in that decade, I remember how life used to be. Somehow, this album reminds me of a simpler time.

The album art here was made by Dr. Jack Kevorkian, who was convicted of murder in 1999 for various accounts of assisted suicide.

This would be the last album Acid Bath would create, as bassist Audie Pitre would be killed in a car accident in 1997. An extremely tragic moment, and the drunk driver somehow was able to avoid prison.

A benefit was done after Audie’s death, and $1200 was raised by the loyal fans in South Dakota.

Overall, I think that the album is really good, and a great show of talent, especially from Audie Pitre. May he rest in peace.

When The Kite String Pops mini Review

“When The Kite String Pops” was released on August 8th, 1994, by a band named Acid Bath, based out of Houma, Louisiana. Many feel like the band belongs in the “Sludge Metal” category, though there are elements from various genres in each member’s playing style. I personally love how heavy the album can get at times, and this is thanks to Audie Pitre and Sammy Duet especially.

The album starts out with the song “The Blue”, which I think is a great introduction to the rest of the music on the album. In some ways, there is a bluesy element to the song. Pun not intended.

One of the greatest strengths on the album is Dax Rigg’s writing style. His lyrics are absolutely beautiful, and he has a gift in writing.

My favorite songs on the album are “Dope Fiend”, “Cheap Vodka”, and “Toubabo Koomi”, though I love the album overall. I think the heaviest song on the album would definitely be “Dr. Seuss Is Dead”.

The album art was created by John Wayne Gacy, who took to painting after being convicted of murder. Ironically, the band using Gacy’s artwork seems to have preserved it. It is unknown where the original piece used for the album is today. By the time the album was released, Gacy had already been executed.

Interestingly, Acid Bath was incredibly popular in South Dakota back in the 90’s, selling out shows there every time. When I interviewed Sammy Duet in 2022, he told me, “South Dakota…who would have thought? Didn’t see that one coming.”.

Overall, I like the album, and give it a 4/5 stars.
