Angels Hung From The Arches of Heaven mini review

“Angels Hung From The Arches of Heaven” is the eighth Goatwhore album, released on October 7th, 2022. It is the only album to have TA on bass.

The album starts out with a much darker element, and possibly the first really Death Metal Goatwhore album. It has a lot more sadness and darkness to it, which I know had a lot to do with how the world changed thanks to all the covid bullshit.

More of Sammy’s punk influences come out in the album, as heard even on the first track. Benjamin’s vocals are a lot more evil, and his lyrics seem to reflect these dark elements too.

The album art was created by Jordan Barlow, and there are so many tiny pieces of esoteric lore, that it’d take at least 30 minutes to explain it all. The most noticeable part is the bird and the swords. When I interviewed Sammy Duet in 2022, I asked him if this was supposed to be like the “10 of swords” in a tarot deck, and he said yes. Though he wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be reversed or upright, when I asked.

My favorite tracks off the album are “Victory Is The Lightning of Destruction”, “Weight of A Soulless Heart”, and “Voracious Blood Fixation”.

This is a fantastic album. I’m curious what type of music Sammy Duet will record next, Goatwhore or not. I hope that he makes something heavy and evil.

4.5/5

MANSON AND DRACULA: CLOSER THAN WE THINK 2022 Review

MANSON AND DRACULA: CLOSER THAN WE THINK 2022

“Manson and Dracula” is a film that came out in 2022, and it immediately starts off as stupid, using pictures of Bela Lugosi’s Dracula, not talking about the historical figure, really at all. There’s a couple of pictures used at the very end of the film though.

The movie uses a lot of stock photos and videos between actual pictures of The Family and Manson. It comes off as a bad youtube video in many ways, which made me laugh. It was like a bad version of “Down The Rabbit Hole” by Fred Knudsen.

The movie talks about Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and film versions of the character. The repeated phrase about “groundwork” being laid, made me laugh.

I bust out laughing when the three Manson women from the trial, Susan, Leslie, and Pat, were compared to Dracula’s three brides in the story.

Despite being clearly satirical, the movie strangely brings up many facts about the Manson Family, even bringing up the attempted assassination of President Ford by Squeaky Fromme.

The women of the Manson Family are also compared to the vampires of the story; interestingly, Susan Atkins was compared to a vampire, when she lured Shorty Shea to his death.

The movie even talks about Bobby Beausoleil and the murder of Gary Hinman. I’m actually surprised with how much of this film got right.

The use of the Dracula comparison was obviously done for comedic reasons, but it’s very interesting how much of the facts were correct, not made up for the film. They even talked about “Creepy Crawling”, comparing that act to how the vampires would stalk their victims.

The movie brought up how the Manson Family didn’t make things easier for themselves during the trials with their behavior, in and out of court, which I agree with.

One error though, was the use of a photo that people commonly mistake for Susan Atkins. Granted, the movie is satire anyway, so I’ll “allow” it.

I was surprised though, how the film used actual crime scene photos from the Cielo Drive residence.

The strangest part about all of this, is that if you ignore all of the parts about the vampire, this is a very educational and accurate film about the Manson Family. It even brings up how the “Helter Skelter” theory used by Vincent Bugliosi was “far-fetched”. The movie also brings up how Bugliosi stalked a milkman that was thought to have been having an affair with Bugliosi’s wife, and it brings up the assault Bugliosi commited to his pregnant mistress, which resulted in a miscarriage! I pleasantly surprised that the film talked about this, as many seem to gloss over Bugliosi’s past.

Overall, a satirical film that made good points. I don’t think any family members of the victims would care for the movie that much, but the average person might actually like this. I wonder if the creators to this film were long time readers about the case, or if  they just randomly stumbled across the Manson Family before creating this film. Considering how points and details about the Manson Family were right though, it’s clear that somebody did their research. There are even clips in the film from the 1976 movie “Helter Skelter”.

The movie of course uses clips from many vampire films, while also using some of Charlie’s music, and clips from the Tate-LaBianca trials. Some of the clips had Christopher Lee, Ingrid Pit, and of course Bela Lugosi.

I do find it interesting though, how none of the footage from “The Fearless Vampire Killers” was used.

Overall, I think that this film was a great piece of satire. Funny, though true. I think that’s one of the best types of observational humor. It can make you laugh, because in many ways, the comedian is right.

I give this film 3/5 slimes.

Clowning Around 2022 Review

 Clowning Around 2022

“Clowning Around” is a short horror film that’s available to watch on youtube. The film is less than 10 minutes, a quick watch. The main idea to the movie is that it’s Sara’s birthday, but her friend cancels plans with her because they have to work. Sara goes to get a bottle of champagne, and when she gets home, she gets a creepy package delivered by a clown. When she opens the box, there’s a tablet that reveals that the clown was following her and took pictures of her inside her house, while she was out shopping, as right as she went inside her house after accepting the package! This made me laugh, because it was so stupid! How did the evil clown take a picture of her, after she took the tablet, then put the picture on the tablet?!

Sara calls the cops, but it’s obviously the clown, who tells her to open the door. The door magically opens but no-one is there. She turns the corner in her house to see the clown standing outside her sliding glass doors. For whatever reason, despite it being night time, she had her blinds wide open, for everyone to see! I mean, no wonder the clown was stalking her. He could just look inside!

The clown magically pops into the apartment and hammers Sara to death. The next scene shows her bloody at a desk, with a happy birthday hat on. The clown takes her phone and reads her texts for some reason, I guess he just wanted to be nosey? The friend texts Sara talking about how a customer clogged the toilet or something, and they wished they could go drink with her. The clown then gets the idea to haunt the friend, then poofs into thin air. The movie ends with a picture of the clown trying to torment the friend, and they stated that they quit their job.

Overall, the movie is cheesy, but I laughed! I think that it was pretty amazing how quickly they established some plot points; a full length movie surely would have fleshed out the stalking scenes more. I think this film is more like a “proof of concept”, of something that could be made into a full length movie if it were ever given the chance. Yes, there are other creepy clown movies, but I welcome them; anything about clowns is always entertaining, especially anything low budget. I could definitely see this being fleshed out if written properly, though it would have to establish some sort of background about the clown. As far as we see as viewers, this evil clown just shows up, but we never know why.

I give this movie 3 slimes.
